Wish List Established on January 20, 1870, the Rose Island Lighthouse faithfully served mariners for over 100 years. It was abandoned 100 years later (after the Newport Bridge was built) and fell victim to vandals and the elements. To save this wonderful piece of history, a group of concerned citizens formed the Rose Island Lighthouse Foundation. The restoration culminated with the re-establishment of the light in 1993. Today visitors young and old re-enter a by-gone way of life in old-fashioned keeper's quarters lovingly restored to their original turn-of-the-century ambiance. In this "living historical classroom" people learn about the working lives and amusements of lighthouse families through some of their own possessions and photographs. We are happy to accept donations of all kinds of household articles from the 1920s and earlier for the museum. We also need things for the more modern keeper's apartment, for our office and boat. Don't be afraid to offer other items that aren't on the list. For the Museum:
