Seal watches run from January to April.  Join us for an hour's cruise around Rose Island to see these charming marine mammals when they haul out on the rocks to rest.  Reservations must be made in advance. ALSO...If you are looking for a unique birthday party venue, you can book a seal watch!

All tours aboard Save The Bay's education boat "Alletta Morris" depart from Bowen's Wharf...WEATHER PERMITTING.

WARNING TO PRIVATE BOATERS - Seals are protected by the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA).  It is against the law to touch, feed, or otherwise harass seals.  Harassment occurs when YOUR behavior changes THEIR behavior.  The best advice is to STAY AWAY from the seals when they are hauled out.

We have seen how well-meaning and concerned small boat operators (kayakers without motors as well as inflatables and the like with motors) try to inch closer and closer to have a look -- very quietly, slowly, so you don't disturb them -- you don't realize it, but what you're doing is mimicking a predator!! One inch too close and they're off the rocks in a second and into the water where they are less vulnerable.  Surprisingly, because they're curious, they may even come closer to you to check you out.  Of course, if you come across seals that are already in the water, it can be a lot of fun.  But, unfortunately, if you've scared them off the rocks, you've violated the MMPA.  You don't know how much rest they may still need or how many other times they've been disturbed during the day, so you just don't want to be the one to do it!  STAY FAR AWAY from seals that are hauled out!

If you come across seals that are injured or dead, please call Mystic Marinelife Aquarium at (860)-572-5955 ext.107, or Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management’s Division of Enforcement at (800) 498-1336 or 401-222-3070.
