Call Rose Island
Lighthouse to order Lighthouses in the Ocean State have a long rich history dating back more than 200 years. "Rhode Island's Historic Lighthouses" is a comprehensive look at the history, decline and rebirth of the beacons that grace our shoreline. In recent years, the lighthouse landscape in Rhode Island has been evolving at a growing pace. New restoration projects are getting underway and more and more people are working to save the maritime history that exists here. This 47 minute documentary covers all 30 of the lighthouses that were built in Rhode Island. It includes stories of tragedies and heroism, buildings lost and restoration projects. This DVD also includes bonus material about restoration projects and hurricane stories. Emmy award winning Director of Photography Jim Karpeichik spent over 2 years filming lighthouses in all seasons. Producer Heather Moreau has researched maritime history and interviewed key people including some who grew up in lighthouses, nationally recognized historians and those who today are leading the way in restoration. On July 28, 2005 Ocean State Video and The Rose Island Lighthouse Foundation presented the film to the public at the Jane Pickens Theater in Newport, RI. It is also being shown on PBS TV in Rhode Island. |
