Dear Lighthouse Friends,
The Rose Island Lighthouse is a beautiful example of sustainable living in a time of rapidly growing environmental awareness and concern for the future. It is a wonderful illustration of maritime history and an important environmental resource for Rhode Island and the greater New England community. Our combination of Historic Lighthouse and Environmental Education Center is unique in the state!
To date, over 26,000 school children have benefited from a Rose Island educational program, which teaches children how to think globally while empowering them to act locally, starting in their homes and their schools—all while having a great time! We demonstrate practical solutions to global issues on a scale kids can easily grasp.
The far reaching benefits of an environmental education are undeniable. RILF, along with other environmental organizations nationwide, recognizes the impact and significance of environmental education and its relevance today. On September 19, 2008 R.I Senator Jack Reed’s “No Child Left Inside” bill was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives, a groundbreaking step toward making environmental education a priority in the nation’s schools. RILF is poised to participate in the reintroduction of many children to the wonders of outdoors.
Your support is critical to ensure the future of our environmental programs. Our field trips and in-school programs encourage a life-long learning process that increases awareness about the environment and its systems while developing critical-thinking skills that enable responsible decision-making. Every gift is appreciated for this work that we believe in so strongly. Please invest in education and help the Rose Island Lighthouse continue making a difference for our students.
Thank you in advance for your support!
